If last year Hack in the Box participants were challenged to put their imagination to good use by utilizing LEGO pieces and robots, this year the security conference will host an event in which contesters will have to use Kinect’s tracking features to create a system that can translate movements into words.
The Kinect for Windows CommSec Challenge will take place on May 24-25, when participants from The Netherlands will pair up and go in a head-to-head challenge to make a system that’s based on Microsoft’s Kinect platform.
The winner, the team that manages to display sentences on a screen in the shortest time using the movement of their bodies, will walk away with a prize of 1,000 EUR ($1,300) provided by Microsoft.
“Last year, the participants and us had a great time re-living our childhood through the joys of LEGO and robotics. For 2012 we’re very excited to be working with Microsoft to see what interesting solutions participants will come up with to translate body movements into digital text”, revealed Barry ‘fish_’ van Kampen, team lead for HITB in The Netherlands.
“Microsoft’s Kinect for Windows platform has transformed the way people interact with technology. Now it’s time for developers to help unlock the possibilities,” he continued.
This year’s HITB promises a lot of fun challenges, but also a number of speakers that will enlighten the audience on the latest developments and findings in the security industry.
Furthermore, the upcoming edition will represent the first ever live gathering of the iOS Jailbreak Dream Team, made up of members from the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team.
