Anatomy of an Attack comes to Portland, OR

I've never spent much time in Portland, Oregon, but I am pleased to announce it is the next destination for our seminar "Anatomy of an Attack: How Hackers Threaten your security".
What is Anatomy of an Attack? Well, let's start with what it isn't.
It's not a sales pitch, it's not FUD and it's not about products.
What is it about is learning the who, what, why and how of modern cybercrime.
During the morning session I explain the different attackers that are out there, what they do to get in, why they're able to get away with it and how these crimes make some of them into millionaires.
We break for a brief lunch and while everyone is settling back into their seats, John Shier and I do a live Sophos Security Chet Chat sharing our thoughts on the latest security news.
Don't worry, John is also a security expert with Sophos.

His years of field experience lend a very practical approach to his afternoon session describing techniques used to defend against the threat landscape I explained in the morning session.
After the Chet Chat it is time for the live demonstration. You will actually see - live, but off-line and in safety - how a range of cybercriminal technologies work:
* Advanced Persistent Threats
* SQL injection
* Command injection
* Advanced JavaScript trickery
* Fake anti-virus, aka Scareware
As alluded to before, at this point I hand off to John. He will show examples of how different tools and technologies apply to defending against the most common attacks we see in the field.
At the end we will have a Q&A as well as raffling off a shiny new fruit company musical computer to a random attendee.
I hope you'll join us March 14th, 2012 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront, 1401 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, OR from 10am to 2:30pm.
The best part? It's free, in both senses of the word (beer and liberty).
SophosLabs logoJohn and I put a lot of energy into trying to share all we learn at SophosLabs into one information filled day, and we hope you will join us if you are able.
Can't make it to Portland? Keep an eye on Naked Security for upcoming AoA events around the world.
Or why not stop in and visit John, Chet and Duck at RSA Conference 2012? You can get free entry on us if you reference code SC12SPH during registration.
